Notes:
|
- The
instructions that follow were written for Windows systems
with Internet
Explorer version 5.5 and Netscape Navigator version 4.08. If you
are using a different version of either of these browsers and/or
a Macintosh, the
instructions might not work for you.
- Keyboard
shortcuts let you use your keyboard rather than the mouse. If a
keyboard shortcut is available for a task, the shortcut is given
in parentheses. For example, "(Alt + T)" means you can
do the task by pressing your Alt key and your T key at the same
time. "(C,
then S, then Z)" means press the C key and release,
then press the S key and release, and then press the Z key and
release.

Increasing
Font Size
| In
Internet Explorer: |
- Go to
the Tools menu (Alt + T) at the top of
Internet Explorer's window and select Internet Options...
(O).
- In the
window that opens, click Accessibility...
(Alt + E).
- In the
window that opens, click to select all 3 checkboxes in the
Formatting section (C, then S, then Z).
- Click OK
(Enter).
- Click
OK to close the Internet Options window.
- Go to
the View menu (Alt + V) and select Text
Size (X).
- In the
menu that appears, click the size you want (or press the
key for the underlined letter for that size).

Netscape Navigator: |
- Press
Ctrl + ].
- Repeat
step 1 until you achieve the desired font size.

- Go to
the View menu (Alt + V) and select Increase
Font (c).
- Repeat
step 1 until you achieve the desired font size.

Minimizing Mouse Use
by Using Your
Keyboard
| To
select a link without the mouse: |
| In
both Internet Explorer
and Netscape Navigator: |
- Press
your Tab key to move from link to link on a
screen.
- When
you reach a link you want to visit, press your Enter
key to click the link.

| To
move through our survey: |
To
move from one checkbox item to the next:
In
both Internet Explorer
and Netscape Navigator: |
- Press
your Tab key.
The item you're currently at
will have a dotted line box around it.

- To
select a checkbox: While the item is highlighted, press
your spacebar.

Note:
You can choose more than one checkbox in a set of
checkboxes answers.

move from one circle item to the next: |
| In

- Press
your arrow key.
The item you're currently at
will have a dotted line box around it.

- To
select a circle: While the item is highlighted, press
your spacebar.

Speeding Up
Screen Display
To have pages
display quicker, turn off graphics (photos, logos, etc.) In their
place a line of text will display. (On this site, the text will
describe what it's replacing if the image is relatively important.
Otherwise, the text "decorative image" will
appear.
| In
Internet Explorer: |
- Go to
the Tools menu (Alt + T) at the top of
Internet Explorer's window and select Internet Options...
(O).
- In the
window that opens, click the Advanced tab.
- In the
window that opens, under the Accessibility section,
you'll want the box next to the Always expand ALT text
for images checked. If it is not, click it to select
it.
- Scroll
to the Multimedia section, where you'll want Show
pictures not checked. It is checked, click it to
de-select it.
- Click
OK (Enter)
to close the Internet Options window.
Note: You will not see the effects of these changes
until the next time you open Internet Explorer.
